Public Access Computers at the Library

  • The library has computers available for public use. Click here to view the library’s Computer Use and Public Internet Use Policies.

  • Public access computers are available free to all library users ages six and up. An adult must accompany a child under the age of twelve.

  • Computers are accessed by logging in with your patron library card number. If not already a library member, please register for a free library card at the library’s main desk in order to use a library computer. Library cards are offered free to all residents of Pennsylvania. A guest pass may be obtained to use a computer by any person who is visiting from another state or requires a one-time use. A library card is required for repeated use of library computers.

  • The library’s computers shut down automatically ten minutes prior to closing. Please see library hours of operation here.

Available computers:

Computer lab. The computer lab is located to the left of the main desk and contains six computers.

Genealogy computer. One computer is located in the Library’s Genealogy Room, available by reservation.

Library floor. Two computers are available on the first floor of the library near the entrances to the study rooms.

BYOD/Bring Your Own Device. Free public wi-fi is available inside and outside of the library building. Tables and study carrels provide space to use your own device such as laptop, tablet, or phone and connect to the library’s wi-fi inside the building. Wi-fi is boosted to be accessible outside of the building, especially in the parking lot, 24/7.

Login/Logout:

Library members login by typing in their library card number located under the barcode on their card.

Library guests type in the word GUEST followed by a series of numbers, exactly as printed on the guest pass obtained at the main desk.

Upon logging in, the user is asked to accept the Computer Use and Public Internet Use Policies. The policies appear on the screen and are also available as printed packets located next to each computer monitor. Upon clicking “Accept,” the user has confirmed that they have read and agree to the policies. Every user is henceforth responsible for following the policies, some of which have legal ramifications.

In order to logout, the user should click the purple End Session button in the lower right corner of the screen. One final warning will pop up to ask if you are sure that you want to close your session. Click End Now, and you will then be properly logged out.

Printing:

Computer users may print documents single-sided from library computers for a small fee.

Black & White prints cost $.25 per page.

Color prints cost $.50 per page.

Print jobs are sent to the print release station at the main desk behind the printer. Print jobs must be paid for at the main desk before they are released. Cash, credit, or debit forms of payment may be used, although a minimum charge of $1.00 is required for paying by card.

Printing can be done from library computers only. Library users who wish to print from a private device must choose one of two options:

  • Locate, send, or sync a document to an account accessible on a library computer then log in to a library computer to print.
  • Email a document to the library’s print account at mcbrideprint@gmail.com and ask library staff to print the document at the main desk.

Time Management:

Public computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Computers are pre-set to allow for library members to use up to three hours per day, allowing the user to login twice per day. Library guest users may use up to two hours per day with one login.

If a library member using a computer has not used their entire allotted time during a single login the remaining time will freeze upon proper logout and may be used later in the day during a second login.

When the computer lab is not full computer sessions may be extended upon request for extenuating circumstances (class work, online testing, applications in progress) up to one additional hour. This request must be made before the original session expires.
